Assessing Digital Gambling Support Apps
A report and checklist to help operators, developers, and regulators assess apps and bet-blocking tools that support people reducing gambling harm.
Digital support apps: expanding access to harm reduction
Individuals may turn to a digital support app as part of their journey to reduce gambling harm. The quality and accessibility of that initial experience are critical, including whether support is available without unnecessary disclosure of personal information, whether urgent resources are placed behind a paywall, and whether users are directed to appropriate services in their province or territory.
The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) developed this framework to support those who evaluate, recommend, and design digital gambling support tools. It establishes a baseline for assessing safety, credibility, privacy, and harm-reduction practices. The framework is intended to inform decision-making and does not constitute an endorsement of any specific app.
